“I’m delighted by the look, feel and easy use of the new website. It is exactly what I would like to see if I were looking for training and has the amazing feature of actually stating what we do on the front page in plain English! All too rare in my experience”

Content management system FAQs

The most common questions that people often ask us about our content management system

If you have a question, please feel free to contact us and ask – we’ll be happy to help.

Is the content management system difficult to use?

No, most people are able to use it with very little help – though we do provide training as part of every website project. Take a look at our screen grabs and you’ll see how easy it is to use.

Will it make my website run more slowly?

Not at all – in fact, we benchmark our content management system as serving pages faster than static HTML! If this seems impossible, it’s because the entire site is held in cache, dynamically updated, all of the time – so when someone browses to a site, the page is ready and waiting. We also have a very limited number of websites on each server, so that the traffic for one website never compromises another.

Will I have total control over layout?

One of the great benefits of a content management system is that it can ensure that design standards are consistently adhered to. So, while there is a WYSIWYG editor, control is strictly within the site’s design – so that website editors don’t ‘break’ your site or compromise your brand. In use, you have as much control as is needed.

How much of a website can I edit – just a few pages?

You can edit pretty much all of your website.

When I add items such as news stories and blogs, will I have to create new links to them – for example, from the home page?

No – we can ensure that dynamic links (such as the latest news stories and blogs) are automatically updated.

I’ve heard that using a content management system means I’ll get poor search engine results – is that true?

It depends on the content management system. Ours is built from the ground up to be search engine friendly, and we’ve even extended the core product with our own search engine optimisation modules. Our content management system provides the core elements needed to ensure good search engine results and full website indexing, including:

  • search engine friendly URLs
  • fast loading pages
  • correctly structured HTML, using ‘semantic’ mark-up
  • automatically updated XML site map
  • RSS feeds for regularly updated content
  • page-level control over meta tags and page indexing

I’ve heard that content management systems only allow you to update text – what about images?

Our content management system features an integrated media library, so you can add your own images, download documents (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and MP3) and even multimedia (such as Flash) quickly and easily. When planning your site, we decide what your media control needs will be and tailor your content management functionality accordingly.

I don’t like the strange URLs that content management systems generate. What can you do about it?

By strange URLs, you probably mean ones which look like www.domain.com/cms/pages/SectionID=13&pageID=34. Our content management system doesn’t use URLs such as these, it outputs search engine friendly URLs such as www.domain.com/services/service-name  – we can even provide alternative URLs, incorporating product codes for example, which work alongside the search engine friendly URLs but are easier to use on promotional materials (an example would be www.domain.com/products/345).

Will using your content management system place restrictions on my website design?

No. We design pages to work in the way they need to – then tailor the content management system as required. We don’t think that a content management system should impose unnatural limitations of any kind.
