These days, it’s hard to know what traditional labels such as ‘small business’ mean.

Take Harlequin Training Solutions: this is, on the face of it, a small business based in the Cotswolds. Dig just a little deeper, and you find that Harlequin has a global customer base and has been responsible for training over a million people worldwide – often within some of the world’s largest corporations.

When Harlequin wanted to take its website to the next level, it chose Labrow Marketing. The aim was to keep the site small and friendly, to reflect the nature of the business itself, but also to create mechanisms for Harlequin to not only demonstrate its work, but also to interact with potential customers.

The core of the website is the portfolio – where Flash-based demonstrations of completed e-learning programmes can be viewed. Other active content is provided to attract visitors – for example, an ‘e-learning calculator’ which not only estimates the cost of an e-learning programme, it also compares those costs to other training methods.

The site’s new blog is the place where interaction with visitors is centred. The blog allows John Lawton, owner of Harlequin, to keep clients and other visitors up to date with e-learning and instructional design topics. To help make the blog interactive, visitors can post comments to blogs, follow blogs via RSS newsfeeds, follow Harlequin on social networking sites such as Twitter and also sign up to get regular e-mail updates.

Fully content managed, Harlequin has complete control over the website’s content, via an easy-to-use content management system – which requires no knowledge of HTML to use.

This website was developed in partnership with Net Marketeers, which provided the technical development for the content management system.
