Helping people to find the right architect for their timber-framed home
Sometimes it’s not easy to find what you want. For example, it’s pretty easy to use search engines to find an architect. But what if you want a specific type of architect?
For example, what if you only want to find architects that design timber-framed homes? Using search engines, you can find lots of architects pretty easily, but their websites seldom make it clear whether this is something they offer – you’ll then have to ring around each one to find out if they design timber-framed buildings.
So, the goal of the Directory of Oak-Frame Architects is to only provide information on those architects which have a track record in, or a passion to work with, timber frames. It’s not a website that any architect can be listed on – all applicants are manually vetted for suitability by a construction professional.
For the visitor, the site makes finding an architect very simple indeed. There is a choice of searching methods, which include searching by postcode, the type of building you want designed or by county. Whichever way you search, an architect is just a click or so away.
There’s also an ‘inspiration gallery’ with many pictures of oak-framed homes that visitors can browse through to find inspiration for their own projects. If someone sees a design he/she likes, then clicking on a link will take the person to the profile of the architect which created it.
It’s then a simple matter for people to send an enquiry to the selected architects to get the ball rolling on their own projects.
The site is fully content managed, using the Umbraco content management system (which is in use in over 30,000 websites worldwide). This allows anyone to update content, without needing to learn how to edit HTML pages. Using the content management system makes it very simple indeed for the Directory of Oak-Frame Architects to maintain the content – adding in new architects, uploading photographs and so on.
This website was developed in partnership with Bawden Quinn Associates, which provided the technical development for the content management system.
